Getting a Great Deal on a Used RS7 with DeMuro

Slideshow: Doug DeMuro is an automotive journalist who has written for many automotive-based online and magazine publications. He also has a popular YouTube channel in which he reviews high-end sports cars and luxury vehicles. Recently, he made the case for why a used Audi RS 7 is a half-price used car bargain.

It is possible to find this car for a bargain – no matter where you live.

The RS 7 that Doug reviewed is available in the low-$70,000 range. But this isn’t a bargain find exclusive to a single location: There are currently 29 different RS 7 models listed for sale on Autotrader for $70,000 or less. This is amazing considering the fact that the RS7 starts at $115,000, and it's not uncommon to see them offered for $140,000 or more.

All cars depreciate: What makes the RS 7 different?

Doug argues a used RS 7 is a bargain, but why? To begin, we start with the engine: The RS7 uses a 560-horsepower 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which is a powerful engine that sends the thing from zero to 60 in under 4 seconds. While some might argue that this might be overkill, it’s harder to justify spending $140,000 on a vehicle whose limits most people will never be able to experience. But when the price falls between $60,000 or $70,000, things change: Now it’s the same price as a new RS 3 -- and considering you can get the RS 7 with a CPO warranty, why not enjoy more power at no extra cost?

Some additional perks of a used RS 7

The RS 7 has a beautiful interior with tons of room (keep in mind this car fits only four passengers) – and its impressive cargo area is larger than a Panamera's. The car also handles incredibly well – Doug is particularly impressed with how much "smaller" the RS 7 feels in handling than it actually is. He notes that it's not quite enough to make up for its size increase over the RS 3, but it's not far off, with direct, precise, well-weighted steering and little body roll. Drivers will enjoy increased confidence with the RS 7, especially in corners, and its wide stance makes it easy to fling into a turn quickly and push out with heavy throttle.

The RS 7 is truly a modern car with all the technological bells and whistles.

This car is outfitted with top-of-the-line technology. Although the 2014 model Doug drove isn't as advanced as most brand-new Audi models with the brand's excellent "Virtual Cockpit" feature, it's still got plenty of modern conveniences (e.g. a little touchpad in the center console that changes based on what infotainment screen you're on). Obviously, the RS 7 also has all the latest safety features, even though it's a few years old -- though it stops a bit short of brand-new models like the M5 and AMG E 63 S. Still, the good stuff is there.

Some critiques of the RS 7

While Doug is mostly complimentary of the RS 7, he does point out one critique he has, which is mostly a matter of taste. He admits he’s never loved the styling of the A7, or the S7, or the RS 7. In particular, he doesn’t like how the sloped roofline comes to an abrupt end after the glass, and he thinks the car looks a little too wide and too low for its own good. However, he does point out that in all the times he’s brought up this criticism, most people say that they like the styling of this car. To this end, he admits he’s since developed somewhat an appreciation for the subtlety of the Audi "RS" cars, which still maintain the "sleeper" performance car look even in the face of more overt sportiness from BMW M cars and Mercedes AMG cars.
