Slideshow: Is 2,000 Horsepower in an R8 Going Too Far?!
When a run of the mill twin turbo kit just won’t cut it you go to extremes. Slap two turbos onto your V10 and try 2,500 horsepower on for size.
The Best Engine
V10s are known for their power and performance. The Audi R8 is no exception with a shared platform borrowed from its cousin at Lamborghini. For some people, stock power level just isn’t enough which leaves a simple choice: to boost or not to boost? Thankfully this owner chose to go all out and make serious power!
76 millimeters
76 millimeters isn’t a long distance unless you’re talking turbochargers. Two turbos pair to each bank of cylinders to provide enough boost to pump out a devastating 2,500 peak horsepower. When power levels exceed 4 times what they were intended to be you can bet the motor has fully forged internals and runs on exotic fuel to counteract detonation.
Sound of Underground
Built by Underground Racing the car has a great team behind it. If you’ve searched anything about the Texas Mile or standing mile records this is a company that will populate almost all of your search results. With massive amounts of experience when it comes to high horsepower setups these guys deliver every time the checkered flag drops.
World Record Contender
Achieving a speed of 244mph in the standing 1/2 mile this car is a world record contender and without a doubt the fastest R8 on the planet. Retaining a dual clutch transmission this is one car that doesn’t beat around the bush when it comes to rifling through gears. Shifts are savagely fast which save critical time allowing the car to hit an incredible speed!
Italian Heart & International Records
Everyone will be gunning for the mythical 300mph mark in the standing mile this year so we’ll have to see if this R8 takes it down first. M2K with their Ford GT is sharp on the heels of the new record and so are a host of other top U.S. based tuners. My money is on M2K, but I won’t count Underground out until the last run of the day!!! Who do you think will break the record? Let us know below!
