An Upgrade

The seller of this Overlander 1990 Quattro Coupe acquired it four years ago in sunny Palo Alto, California. Back then, it was a shell on wheels. But today, it features a 1.8-liter inline-four engine linked to a 5-speed Tiptronic transmission that was borrowed from a B5 Audi A4. Other upgrades include a lift, a restoration of the black interior leather, elongated control arms, custom axles, and subframe spacers.

Exterior

The car has been raised about 6" higher using custom suspension lifts. The seller added 15" Speedline wheels with 215/75 BF Goodrich all-terrain tires to get it to the right height. Outside, it's been finished in pearl white. Other noticeable attributes include a roof rack with mounted LED offroad lights, shovel, high lift jack, a hood borrowed from a B4 Audi 90, HDPE skid plates, a tubular bumper at the front that attaches to a winch, and a full-size spare tire. According to the seller, the white coat has been scraped and dents can be seen on each panel.

Interior

The seller has picked a few Audi parts from his collection and used them to renovate the leather interior. The headliner and the grey plastic pillar are covered in black. The heated seats come along with a manual control setup borrowed again from a B4 Audi 90 Cabriolet. The seller felt that this was better compared to the factory automatic climate control setup. There's an Alpine stereo that doesn't work. The seller found out that it drains the battery.

New Instruments

All factory instruments have been replaced with a B5 cluster. The cluster has an OBDII port and factory-set computer functions. The fuel gauge works well when the tank is empty but only shows 5/8 when the tank is full. The seller replaced the catalytic converter with an emulator to prevent the CEL form appearing on the downstream oxygen sensor. Out of the 155,000 miles shown, only about the last 10,000-15,000 were driven by the seller.

Performance

The seller claims that the car still has its electrically-operated push-button locking rear differential and an additional GIAC ECU tune. An un-tuned ECU is provided alongside other spare parts. A custom aluminum lower airbox has been paired with the intake snorkel to improve the car's performance. The seller performed the last oil and filter changed about 1,500 miles ago while a filter and transmission fluid change was done about 7,000 miles ago.

Replacements

Other parts that have been replaced include the mounts, suspension bushings, dampers, tie-rod ends, and other hardware. Traditional vacuum-assisted power brakes have been installed in place of the original hydro-boost system. Images taken show well-done skid plates, flows, and other suspension components.

Custom-Fabricated Lift Kit

Some of the components that make part of the lift kit include quick disconnect sway bar links, original but modified steering knuckles, and 5" elongated shock housings. The seller claims that the extended control arms add an extra 2" to the track at the front. The car also uses KYB EXCEL-G shocks springs to maximize stability. The custom axles use RCV Performance Ultimate 930 CV linkages and custom RCV Performance axle shafts. With this, anyone that gets to buy the car will also get a lifetime warranty for the axles.

Price

The seller is also offering a Washington title with his name and an accident-free report from Carfax. The report shows details about previous owners in Colorado, Washington, and California. There are no damages or accidents noted. The build process has been documented in a 19-page thread that's also accessible to buyers. The car was sold at $9,500 on November 1, 2019.
