Audi A2 1.4 TDI Meets EU4

July 7, 2003

The Audi A2 1.4 TDI with 55 kW/75 bhp engine now complies with the stringent European emission standard EU4. This will please the customer for two reasons: they benefit from a tax advantage of up to € 614 and from the unchanged basic price of € 18,300.

This means that the entire A2 model series already complies with the most stringent emission limit to date, which is not due to become law for newly registered vehicles until 1 January 2005.

This progress has been made possible by extensive detail work on the engine and high-pressure injection system. Exhaust gas recirculation is now electrically controlled and the efficiency of the EGR cooling system has been significantly improved. A map-controlled shutoff valve in the intake manifold assists mixture preparation.

The entire pump-injector fuel injection system has been modified in detail and the pressure level increased further. The newly tuned engine management with EOBD (European On-board Diagnosis) and pilot injection as well as the further increased precision of the injection elements have a positive effect on emissions and acoustics.

Shielding measures on the intake manifold and cylinder block round off the extensive modifications that have been made to this high-performance engine. The acoustic quality of the three-cylinder engine has also been significantly improved as a result.
