Clunking sound when brake pedal is released on passenger side...
I had a Porsche Brembo brake caliper upgrade for 21/2 years on my car and this clunking sound started 2 weeks ago . One buddy thinks one of the pads is moving around or one of the pistons is not retracting as fast the other others. I can feel the clunk in the brake pedal. The pads are not OEM Porsche but generic from Autozone. Any thoughts?

my thoughts - more likely to be a strut top or the bottom shock mount. From my experience, a caliper is more likely to seize, seal fail or get gummed up and be slow to disengage. A clunk is something changing position. When you pull the strut out, there is a top rubber mount that you cannot see just looking in the wheel well. On my allroad the centre that the shock absorber attaches too had torn away. Under heavy braking or over a pot hole I would hear a clunk. The good news is they are cheap and a DIY. Look up part number 4D0412377F to get a picture of what I am talking about. otherwise I would be checking control arm bushes.

Apparently the outer CV joint is broken?...
And it causes the clunk when brake pedal is released. It only does it after the car has been driven a mile or 2. And it only happens in forward ..never in reverse. i can even modulate it so that it doesn't clunk by slowing down to a crawl then stopping. But a hard stop will make it quite audible to those standing next to car and those who have heard it say it is coming from behind brake caliper.

Oh well, at least the outer CV is cheaper than the inner ones. I beleive Audi use GNK as stock but there are lots of brands available. Is the CV boot split? Unusual for a CV to go on a stock power car unless dirt got into the CV through a broken boot. You can replace these yourself, the hardest part is usually getting the large nut off the wheel hub. Besides needing a big socket, sometimes you need a decent (long) breaker bar or a high impact rattle gun to loosen the nut. After that its just messy due to the CV grease seems to get on everything.
