Default Hood help please!! 96 audi a4 2.8 fwd

I have a 96 audi a4 2.8 FWDm my car started overheating about a week ago. I pull over to pop the but no good. Luckily I wasn;t too far from home so I drive it back. I tried pulling cable from the interior but it almost came out completely, so I left it alone. I popped the grill off but can't reach bolts to remove hook from hood itself. I tried going from under the car but it's too tight to get anything up there much less see what I need to get to. I have researched and researched and come up with the obvious solutions but they don't work. Has anybody figured out a way to pop the hood without cutting into it? I would love to keep my current hood as money is tight for a while. Please please please help. I need to get my car inspected and check out why it overheated. Thanks all in advance! And please don't say search because I wouldn't be posting if I hadn't done that already. thanks again!

Have you tried holding the black sleeve with a pair of pliers to keep it still, then with a second pair pull on the the inner cable only.

Would that still work? I mean I tried pulling from the interior but the whole cable almost came out So I stopped pulling, I'll try it again later today but I doubt it'll work.

It's the inner cable that actually releases the bonnet catch. The outer black sleeve shouldn't pull forward, it should be fixed in position by a clip to the handle bracket. Worth a go.

Should be able to look straight up from the bottom, and with a long prybar you should see where the cable attaches to the hood latch, just pry that over to the left side of the car and will release the hood. Theres not much to look at from the grill side.

I have the 2.8 in mine, it's really tight, will I still be able to do this?

I ran into similar trouble on a B5 Passat 2.8. ( hood fell shut while the cable was disconnected) Managed to get it from underneath around the drivers headlight/washer resovoir tank area. Frustration and swearing all the while.

Might take you a couple hours, but you will find a solution if you stay at it long enough. Get creative with a wire coathanger and some tools. Yank the cable till it brakes, what do you have to lose?

So I managed to open my hood only because headlight tabs were already broken and removing the bumper, my issue now is how is the cable connected to the interior latch, I tried searching for a pic but nothing comes up. Can anybody show me a pic of their interior latch assembly please??
