P0321 - Crankshaft speed sensor repair
New member here looking for a DIY fix. I just got back in town after not running my 2007 A4 for about 5 days. Took it maybe .2 miles and started misfiring at around 2k RPM, and my check engine light came on. Ran the fault code and it came back with P0321 - Ignition distributor engine speed input circuit range/performance.
After doing some digging, I found that the most common problem is with the crankshaft speed sensor or electric speed sensor that connects to the engine block. I want to make sure I am diagnosing this right before I start any fixes though. The engine doesn't have a high idle (currently right around 800 rpm), and when I accelerate slowly I got up to 45 mph without any problems, as long as I didn't hit that 2k rpm mark.
I'm planning on leaving town to do some road tripping later this week so the timing is bad, and I want to get this solved as cheaply as I can before I leave. What's the best course of action here?
