Default 39K and overheating...SMH

For the past two days after work (about a 10 mile drive) I heard the fans running after I got out of the car. This evening, I was driving down the road and got the high temp warning. Pulled over, shut the motor off and it cooled down in less than a minute.

Hooked up VCDS and no codes other than an catalytic converter fault. Erased them and all is good. At idle the temp is normal (111 degrees celsius). If I drive with the heat on it stays somewhat stable but will begin creeping up. With the heat off it climbs in a matter of seconds. Thermostat likely the cause?

Sounds like maybe a thermostat. There were some reports of bad thermostats in MY2012's.

Sounds like a thermostat issue. Is your car included in the fuel rail recall? They generally replace the thermostat as part of that recall service.

Thermostat for the win...too bad the dealer wouldn't update my MMI software based on my VIN. What should I tell them to get the latest version?

BTW Audi Care is impressive. It took under an hour to get the car towed to my nearest dealer (Audi of Annapolis) and they did quite a few things to the car in one day...very impressed with their service.
