AMI Connection Retrofit
Hi all
I'm back in the Audi family having picked up 2012 A6 Avant S-Line 2.0 TDI yesterday.
I was expecting an AMI connection in the armrest - but here is only an AUX socket. Is there a way to retrofit the Audi connection so that I can plug in my old iPod classic?
Thanks for any help.

Hmm. At least in the USA, I thought every car had AMI port under the arm rest. Someone else certainly knows definitively, but you might check your glove box for the port (that's where it was in C6). One option you most certainly have is to tap into the MOST optical digital bus, and there should definitely be a connection in the glove box for the CD Changer option if nothing else. That would require more effort however.

In the UK, there are many more trims, packages and different options. It sounds like your C7 Avant did not have the AMI option. Adding it after the fact might be possible but would likely require a new MMI 5F module which would be very expensive.
I would think the USB port would work but control of the iPod through the MMI screen might not be available as would be with an AMI cable.

Thank you both for your replies. The glove box was the next place I looked - having had two C5s. Nothing. No connection ports at all. Just something that looks like a blanking cover over what could be a hole at the back.
And I can't find a USB connection either. The armrest literally just has the AUX socket and the 12v socket.
Perhaps I'll just have to use the SD cards instead.

You need the ami retrofit kit which fits into the armrest storage area and plugs into the back of the main unit. Single cable run with a small cutout needed in the plastic. I think audi rip you off at around £250-300
