Comfort vs Dynamic - What's your take?
#31
I use individual mode and have steering set to dynamic and engine to comfort (I have disabled belt tensioners to me they are useless).
I don't drive super crazy and i find comfort for engine/tranny is good enough and i even forget sometimes that i have sport available from the gear shifter. Many time i end up pressing down on the accelerator to pass when i should be really switching to sport mode...

To me the problem is that it stays in a lower gear not up-shifting quickly, leading to what you called jerkiness in traffic. I do not think it is really jerky; it's a case that by staying in low gear there is a lot more rapid "pull" when you tap the loud pedal than you may want at that time, so when you lift off, the car engine brakes noticeably, making it seem jerky.
My 2 cents

Leaving the transmission in S and expecting it to feel anything but a bit jerky in stop and go traffic if driving aggressively does not seem reasonable to me. It is like back in the day when I had a GTO with 4 on the floor and something like a 3.89 real axle. When I got stuck in heavy traffic it was just a lot of revving, lurching, braking, repeat.
From page 106 of the owner's manual: "Select the sport mode S for sporty driving. The vehicle makes full use of the engine's power. Shifting may become noticeable when accelerating." This might be what some see as jerkiness - to me just being in the wrong mode for traffic - semantics?
I actually think the 8 speed Tiptronic is pretty smooth in traffic in both D and S as long as I modulate the accelerator.

I have the VCDS mod enabled that always shows the current gear selection. While it is indeed rare to see an 8 when I'm in sport mode, there are cases when I do see it. For example when going downhill at higher speeds, like maybe 70-75
Versions of the ZF 8-speed in other cars will not shift into the 8th speed (over drive) when in the sport mode. I believe this is also true in the A6 when the transmission lever is in S. What happens if the transmission is in D and the ADS is in Dynamic? Will the transmission shift into the 8th gear?
