This is apparently how the dealer does it, and it is much simpler and less messy than using a drain plug. With the top mounted filter there's no need for a jack. I'm assuming the 2.0 is setup for this as well.
My exact experience also with the MityVac 7201. Very easy with no mess.

Thanks!'

It's official there is no drain plug, I asked the dealer. I decided to use a hand pump and it took 1.5 days to empty the oil, it was horrible. Apparently you need to buy a motorized pump to change your oil now, ugh...! I think I may actually take it somewhere next time, not worth my time...

On my 3.0 I can suck the oil out in 5 to 10 minutes with a Mighty Vac.

I am amazed they would design and build an engine with no drain for the oil. Guess I'll be acquiring a new tool - a pump.

But just think about how much weight savings is achieved by eliminating the plug.
At least .000001 MPG improvement.
Or maybe there's another reason?

To make it intentionally more complex so that the customers resort using delear services rather than doing themselves?

The cynic in me believes this to be the truth behind the matter.

Not sure what the dealer is smoking [whatever it is, I would like some ]

I have been under my 2012 A6 2.0T and have seen the drain plug. If I recall correctly, it was a 10mm Hex type. For the record, I still suck the oil out of the dipstick tube as it is much easier! I do however get under the car every other oil change to make sure all is well!

take a look at this link below, then also click on the exploded view parts diagram!

I wonder if the 2.0T has a drain plug, but the 3.0 doesn't?

Yes they both have drain plugs. Whatever dealer said they don't needs to learn there product. The 3.0 has a 6mm hex to remove it and the 2.0 takes a 19mm wrench to remove the drain plug. They are both on the left side of the pan but the 2.0 is angled and the 3.0 is point straight down.
