CEL question.....
2000 A6 4.2: I just had my o2 sensors replaced due to the P1131 code....Anyway, does the mechanic have to clear the code after replacing them or should it clear on its own?? The light is still on and I assume he did not clear the code. Thanks

Good question. Don't have the definitive answer but...
There are soft codes and hard codes that will create a CEL. The soft ones, such as for a loose gas cap, will clear by themselves after X number of successful cycles without a fault. Hard ones are a bit more persnickity.
You can sometimes clear a light by disconnecting the battery or ECU for a few minutes. This can cause more of a pain than it solves, though -- afterwards you need to reset the one-touch windows, radio code and do a throttle body adaptation. It also creates a DTC for the power cutoff, but not an actual CEL.
No guarantee that the light will actually clear, though. Of course, you realize that even if the light does go off, it will come back if the fault is not fixed. Presumably, you figure that the new O2 sensors did fix the problem.
Short answer: be certain and use an OBDII tool -- either a VAG-compatible or a generic. If going back to the mechanic is not convenient, Autozone or Pep Boys will usually scan and clear for free.

code will still be there. CEL may turn itself off
if you clear the code you will need to set throttle and kickdown. Vag Com is your friend. See my sig below for Vag Com links.

Disconnect the battery and don't reset them. Harder than it sounds, though.
The 1-touch is cleared when power is cut off, and reset by hitting the window down button all the way for a second or two. (Or something very close to that -- it's in the manual.) So if you don't do that step, which you'd almost be likely to do even by accident, it won't be set.
Personally, I find it annoying too. A lot of cars are not auto-down by default. The users clicks the down button past a detent as needed. But that ain't what we got. ;-)
Note that killing tha battery will still mean you'll likely need the radio code and to do a throttle body adaptation.
