Default Traction control light

I have a 2004 A6 Quattro, recently the traction light has been coming on.
I have all new brakes on the car. I haven't checked for codes will do today.
I can be driving down the interstate in normal driving weather and normal speeds. Some days no light but most days it will come on once or twice a day until I shut the car off. then restart. Anyone have answers for me??

This could be just about anything, but my guess, based on what you're describing is the steering wheel position sensor is "off".

Have you recently pulled the steering wheel? If so, you may not have it on just right and/or you need to do a steering wheel calibration with the vag-com.

My second guess is the tone ring on the CV joint, or the wheel speed sensor itself.

A Vag-Com should show some codes that will help narrow it down much more...

Since you have all new brakes on the car, I would guess that somehow one of the abs cables was damaged during the brake service.
As for checking codes…you'll have to do it while the light is on if you really want to catch it. Intermittents are that way…even with no codes, the intermittent has to be checked while it's on.

FWIW, knock sensors on audis are that way unless they go totally Tango Uniform. An intermittent failing knock sensor will make your engine go limp mode and the only way to catch it is to be monitoring it on VCDS or catch it with the engine in limp mode…don't turn the engine off until you do try to read codes.

I have not had the steering wheel off just replaced the pads. It doesn't do it in town just on the highway/interstate. I and it is very intermitting. Someone said it might need a alignment, which could be I have not done that in two yrs and with the way the roads are in the Midwest it could be.

Mine did the same thing. From occasional to daily. Fixed by replacing the ABS module with a used one, and will be sending my original in for rebuild.

A vcds scan should show intermittent ABS problem. Might also be wiring from sensors to module. Scan when the light is on, as suggested.
