C6 A6 Avant power tailgate, issues while closing
I'm having some weird issues with the way the power tailgate in my A6 Avant closes.
Sometimes (but VERY rarely) it closes nice and slow all the way down like this:
<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FSTjq7hZGzc?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FSTjq7hZGzc?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
However most of the time it closes slowly most of the way down but slams down hard right at the last moment, like this:
<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8D-RiJCTyGI?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8D-RiJCTyGI?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
The dealer already replaced the gas shocks, but that hasn't helped. What are other Avant owners seeing? I would think it should always work like in the first video, and if it doesn't then something is broken. But, what?

My '11 Avant has always closed like your second video with the ending slam. I thought because it is an older design/platform it wasn't engineered as well as some of the newer soft close tailgates. Now you guys have me wondering if I should have ours checked.

My 06 A6 Avant closes in the manner of both video 1 and 2. It has always done this since I bought it new. There was a software "upgrade" in 2007 or 08 but it didn't make any difference. I haven't considered it a problem and never bothered to fix it. Of greater annoyance is the occasional reluctance of the automatic tailgate to fully open. It sometimes gets stuck after about raising 8 inches only. It seems as if the system has been set to only open that high (as it can be programmed that way) even though I didn't set any limits on the height. Then when I press the button on the key or touch the switch at the bottom of the tailgate it closes. Then when either the key button or the hand switch above the license plate is activated, it opens all the way as normal.
I was informed by the dealer that somehow the electronics develops glitches that behaves as if those are the parameters that have been set even though I didn't do anything. If your tailgate does this, then when it is partially open, manually push it down until it closes. This should reset the system to open all the way when it is next opened.

Do you happen to have a copy of the recall letter? I searched "48H6 Update" and all I can find is that 48H6 has something to do with the "ignition key and the starter lock".
BTW, I had my car at the dealer on Tuesday this week and the claimed to fix the issue by lubing the latch and tail gate mechanisms. It worked as desired (closing softly) for one day, but today it's back to it's usual self again, slamming down hard right at the end.
I suspect they have no clue what is wrong and how to even begin fixing it, so I'll have to steer them in the right direction.
