Power Steering Fluid for 2008
Does anyone know the correct power steering fluid for a 2008 A6? I would assume it is the same as earlier years but while the Bentley lists G 002 000 for earlier years it states to check the "Maintenance Manual" for 2008. I cannot find a Maintenance Manual and it is not listed in my owners manual.
When I started my car today after work I heard a nasty noise from under the hood which quickly quieted down. When turning I heard a groan and felt vibration in the wheel. The noises and groan went away once the car was warm. I checked the fluid level when I got home and it was down below the filter screen. I happen to have a can of 4-5 year old (opened) Pentosin CHF 11s which is the G 002 000 equivalent but I don't want to add it if it is the wrong stuff. Also, the can has been opened with the cap on tight for a few year. Is it still OK to use?
Of course now I wonder where the fluid went. My CPO warranty runs out on Friday so I am getting the car into the shop on Thursday and have them check it out.

I think I found the answer to my own question. As of 2008 Audi changed power steering fluid to G 002 000 M2 which is Pentosin CHF 202.

Schwartz, just check on the cap of the fill tank for the power steering fluid and it will tell you what fluid is required... very straight forward
in my case it was the chf11s and for a complete change you will need 2 liters.
I did a write-up on my experience and did this less than 2 weeks ago... but wad glad I did it since the fluid in there did not look to great
you will have some noise after the change, which is basically air bubbles being purged from the system. mine went away after 2 minutes of driving around the block.

Schwarz, you can use either the original CHF 11S or the new CHF 202 product. The 202 is somewhat less $$$. I think NAPA has both of these items.

Here was the write-up I did when changing the fluid.
Essentially I leveraged the pump to force out the current fluid in the system and then kept 'topping' up with new fluid. Here's the DIY:
1 - Remove the smaller return hose from then pump and plug it right away with a 3/8" hose w/ a bolt rammed in it.
2 - Attach a meter long 3/8" hose to the return line. I used a short section of tubing and a worm gear clamp.
3 - Run the hose into a gallon container
4 - Start the engine and in 10 seconds the pump will make a growling noise
5 - shut engine off and fill reservoir to the top. Repeat about 4 times. I used 2 liters of chf-11s.
6 - Use the worm gear clamp to attach to bottom of reservoir.
7 - Top off to correct level.
8 - dropped a small magnet into the top of the filter; to trap any ferrous particles

Has anyone switched to Redline Synthetic PS fluid? I've switched my UrS and my wife's C5 S6 to Redline from CHF 11S with very good results. The Redline is much less expensive and more available in stores. I'll probably switch my wife's new to us 2008 A6 when I eventually change the fluid.
