Default Clicking noise in dash area

Anybody have any idea what could be causing my clicking noise in the dash area of my 2000 Audi A8L? The clicking happens for no reason at all and clicks at random between 1 and 6 clicks and at several intervals, sound like morse code.

Default A common one is 13 clicks every 7 minutes or something similar

I have it and wish I had a month or so to dissanble the dash to get to that annoying vent flap in the center of the dash.

I got the same annoying clicking in my S8. Think IĀ“m about to do it the easy way and just disconnect it like you did... How did you reach it? From under the stearing wheel or from the side panel on the center console on the drivers side?

Hi,
Did you solve the clicking problem? And in that case, how? IĀ“ve got the same in my 2000 S8.

Default I took off this air piping under the steering wheel

It's a huge PITA and you do not need to do it to unplug the wires. If you look in my picture you can see a screw holding down the carpet to the right of the petals. If you look above the screw right were the carpet ends you can barely see the yellow plug that I disconnected. You could probably loosen the carpet to access the plug much easier but I had already taken off this tubing to fix the squeaking steering wheel (unnecessary but I didn't know that at the time).

Others have mentioned that there are more than one of these flaps but when I had my head right next to this one I could tell it was right next to me. Put your head down there and listen for 7 minutes before you do anything- it was real obvious to me I had found the culprit.

I would have just bought a replacement one but I don't have the real Vag-com to calibrate it a new one and I was already right there. Other users warned me my heat might not work correctly but my heating and A/C seems to still work fine after disconnecting so it has not been an issue for me.

Thanks!

Actually, I canĀ“t see the yellow plug on your picture which youĀ“re describing, but IĀ“ll loosen the carpet screw and look if itĀ“s the one. ItĀ“s really hard to tell, but it seems like the clicking is located a bit higher than that in my car.

I got an answer from an audi mechanic in a swedish forum who said itĀ“s probably the flap that leads hot (and cold??) air to the vents in the center to the back seats. Apparently he had replaced this part on several A8/S8:s. I thought that since I got heated rear sits it will not be a problem if the backseat passengers (maybe 5 per year...) donĀ“t get showered with hot air during cold days

Default The yellow plug is here

and was pictured in my link to the other thread.

You will not see the silver flap as shown in the top of my picture unless you take off the plastic piping like I unnecessarily did.

I will have to check the back seat heat and air to check for flow now-thanks for the info.
