Default How about: buy a legit one?

Just a thought.

More generally, people often have problems w/ copies, up to and including labels coming off into the DVD player guts if it's an ebay hack job or some such pretending to be the real thing.

Maybe I am way off base here, but doesn't the navigation DVD go into the navigation DVD reader located in the left rear fender well? I have not done it myself, but I am pretty sure there is a DVD reader in there for navigation and the DVD does not go in the CD changer. That is how my 2005 is I believe.

If you are installing it in the DVD nav. player in the trunk, buy a legit nav. DVD as there is some encryption that a copy may not have. Or, find someone with an A6 or A8 and test in their car. You could have a bad nav DVD player.

See Rick, you're trying to put it in the wrong hole!

If you can put it in the right hole and make it work I'd like to know how to get the free version you found. I don't have any need to give Audi another $200.

Rick is pirating in more ways than one.

RNS-E is your problem. We don't have navigation plus. When you find the right one, burn it at 2.4x on a verbatim DVD+R and you'll be good.

OK... I see I may have the wrong dvd but, do you know which one I should be looking for, for my particular car? I also saw a reply that there is a dvd reader for the navigation update in the trunk near the right fender well?

Default Good copy would work...

I made a copy 2010 from A8 DVD nav and put it in my retrofit Q7 DVD and it updated fine after loading the original V6 navigation DVD. Burn and verify with the lowest speed possible.
loading original V6 DVD
Click the image to open in full size.
update with 2010 DVD nav
Click the image to open in full size.

Cheers,

Louis

Default CD player in glove box has nothing to do with regular Nav

Nav DVD unit is in trunk. CD player for audio/stereo is in glove box. Nav map disk goes in DVD player and stays there. CD player is also used for software updates for the car (including the Nav system electronics), but that's completely different than the map disks your first post talked about.

And it is on the left side behind the trim. Need a flat screwdriver to access it. Possibly VCDS to enable eject function on it.

No need for VCDS. There's an eject button, plain as day. BTW, my $99 OEM? disc is still working flawlessly. I purchased it here: Nav disc

It can be made non-functional with VCDS so that valets and others cannot eject the disc and steal it.

Good thinking, but I put all my originals in the house with the spare keys and used only copy in the DVD.

Cheers,

Louis

Good idea. First thing I did when I got the updated version was make an ISO of it too

On some systems the Nav eject button is locked and in that scenario, yes the VCDS is needed to unlock the security block.

Ah, good to know. No problem on an 08 S8 though.

I have a 2013-2014 North America disc if you'd like the updated one - PM me for a torrent link.
