Recently our Wipers will suddenly stop working for no reason. Very scary issue happened in a rain storm could see just made it off hwy.....snow storm stopped restarted a minute later.....rain snow tonight stopped working pulled over turned car off restarted nothing did it again waited longer restarted they started up. Anyone else have this issue....thanks Frank

Yes, I have. Mine was mechanical. I could see the arms start to shudder and then stop. The wiper shafts seized in the tubes of the wiper carrier.

Not wanting to spend $400.00 for the carrier assembly; I removed the assembly, removed the holding clips, then pressed the shafts out. Sanded the shafts and the greased the shafts & tubes and then reassembled everything.

You could have an electrical fault though. Diagnostic scan needed. If no faults show up, standard troubleshooting techniques apply.

If you were local to me (North Atlanta), I'd do the diagnostic scan free of charge. But start small - could be a poor or shorted electrical connection, then advance up the chain (so to speak).

This is just a thought, from my previous ownership of a 2001 740iL I had a wiper scare like this and it turned out to be the relay for the wiper system. I know they are different cars but they have many similarities and it might be a good place to start looking if you can't get your car scanned immediately.
