If you are installing AMI you may just replace CD player with it. Than you don't need any cables.

I've just fitted AMI into my 2004 D3, as I am in the UK I used this 3rd party cable set from eBay.

One thing to note if you want to keep the changer and you want VCDS to continue to work correctly, you need to modify the power loom and insert a loop between pin 1 and 4 on the AMI side to initialise the Mediaplayer2 position. If you do not do this, the AMI will work perfectly, but a VCDS connection to Mediaplayer 1 will show it alternating between the AMI and CD Changer. If you look at the video in the post below, you can see VCDS Alternating.

The official Audi kit comes with the cable wired correctly, it is pot luck on the 3rd party kits if the pins are wired correctly.

Since there aren't any more MMI upgrades available, I basically no longer use my CD player, so would follow Misha's suggestion if I were installing an AMI today.

However, just make sure to upgrade your MMI, if needed, prior to losing the CD player. In North America, 4610 is most recent, but minimally you need 3360 for AMI support.
