Thank you everyone for your feedback it's much appreciated. A couple of other questions I have

1. How much better are the B&O speakers? This 09 does not have them. I know the motorized tweeters and the polished metal look awesome. Just concerned with sound and reliability as I have read that the small tweeters stop working and only repair is to replace $$$$.

2. Based on the info I have shared including the general service history is this vehicle still priced a bit high at $32,000?

People have strong opinions on B&O. For me the Bose is fine and I like music. For some it's a deal breaker. $32K is probably about right for an 09 with that mileage.

I am asking $32k for my 2007 so buy the '09! I have heard both audio systems and am somewhat of an audiophile. The B&O clarity, power, and sound stage is unbeatable.

Good luck with your purchase! It's a fabulous vehicle.

Default Still need some guidance

So I'm still struggling with my search for my next Audi vehicle. As on the original post I was looking for an S8 and now that I'm finding more and more of them around I'm taking my time. However it also has made me think more if this is the right car for me. I work very close to home about a 15 minute drive at most. I do most city driving and although I love the car is it going to be the best for that because of gas ( i know I shouldn't mention this, it's a V10 lol ) and general wear and tear. I assume more wear while city driving than highway. so a couple of questions from those of you that own or have owned these cars.

1. Wear and tear with most city driving

2. Should I look at other vehicles (next model of interest is the A7 since I can't afford the S7 right now)

3. If I stick with S8 probably 2009 model is 89k high milage and when is the timing belt and water pump due to be serviced?

Thank you for your time and feedback!

1. That won't be problem, but consumption will be quite high. You may get 12 mpg if you are lucky. Even 9 mpg if you are not.

2. That's up to you. Check S6. Same V10 in a more elegant body. Not so luxurious.

3. No timing belt on V10. Water pump as/if you need it.

Thank you Mishar!

I love the car but I know I will be at the pump way too often.
Might have to have a second vehicle or get a job further away from home.
Maybe I just have to ride my Ducati more often during good weather.

Just checked on insurance coverage and they quoted me $3100 ouch. Is that common for this car?

If an A7 is in your range, have you considered a 2011 A8? Car and Driver tested the D4 A8 4.2 and found it accelerated just as fast as the D3 S8 they had for a long termer. It doesn't sound nearly as good, but it offers more in terms of comfort and convenience, and much better fuel economy. I pay 1700 a year in insurance in Michigan, although I can't say how that compares to where you are.

The 0-60 time comparo doesn't sound right as far as the D4 4.2. Audi quoted 5.7 on the D4 SWB for the 4.2 and 5.8 on the LWB. D3 S8 was typically quoted by Audi at 5.0. Given all of the horsepower, torque and displacement advantage to the D3 S8 at only 100 more pounds, the two extra gears shouldn't make that up. It's the 4.0T D4 A8 where the 0-60 times went clearly lower than the D3 S8 or W12--especially in the last couple of years with a few more HP tweaks. But, besides straight line stats then there are the various road test articles about some lag and weird throttle at times with the A8 and S8 4.0T flavors. Meanwhile, having driven well equipped low mileage 2011 D3 4.2 dealer loaner for a almost week, at least the D3 W12 had the much smoother tranny feel (and of course the torque), which should carry over to the D3 S8--if anything more so since it is geared more aggressively than the W12. Even today they are still playing with the 8 speed shift programming across most all the Audi makes. The D3 board is actually pretty free of those kinds of shift quality posts over many years compared to either the 5 speed lemon era or what I see on the boards about the 8 speeds ones in a variety of flavors--plus when I drove the D4 4.2 and the Q5 I own. Can't beat the 8 speed for better economy and some performance uptick for a comparable motor, but the shift quality is below what I would have expected in general.

I usually go by the numbers Car and Driver or Road & Track post over manufacturers claim. When C&D tested the 2007 S8, they got a 5.1 0-60, the same time they posted in the 2011 A8. As far as shift quality, I have one complaint regarding the 3-2 kickdown when accelerating after slowing to low speed. It's unnecessarily harsh, and I know a lot of people have complained about it.
