NEW S8 OWNER!
Hey everybody!
I'm the proud new owner of a 2008 s8! This is my first Audi, as I've actually been a Dodge guy my whole life....Traded in my R/T Charger, for this lovely V10....I have a problem with power...I always want more!! I think I got it with this beast.
Anyways, I'm just wondering a few things and thought maybe someone could help me out. I've always changed my own oil and to an extent done work on my engines. This engine however, is a different story. Anybody change their own oil? If not, is it best to take it to an Audi dealer? I'm not sure I trust Jiffy Lube with this car....Right now, that is my main question as I want to change the oil soon, as I like to know when things were done, and more specifically done right. Any input would help! Thanks!
Colin

Welcome to the Board!
Start with sticky tread first. Best introduction to the Audi world and bunch of useful information.
Changing oil on S8 is nothing special. Filter is on the top of the engine, close to the windshield. Vacuuming old oil, including filter, is the easiest way. Good synthetic 0W40 every 10K miles, Mann filter and that's it.
You may be surprised that Jiffy Lube guys may be better for this job than extremely expensive dealer mechanics. Try to avoid them or you will start to hate your new beast pretty soon.

Is a good write up on the oil change. My local audi dealer and Indy shop wants $160 for an oil change. You can get an oe filter from $15-24 depending where you get it. Then oil can be $4-8a quart depending what you use. Save yourself money and do it yourself.
Lots of smart people on the board. Enjoy your car.

Congratulations on your new purchase, and welcome to the board.
Oil changes are no problems at all. Cartridge filter at the rear top of the engine. A set of ramps and a 5-gallon bucket are about all you need. There is also a service reminder light that will need to be reset with VCDS. If that has not been triggered yet you may not need an oil change yet. Good luck and do post some pictures of your new ride!

Oil change DIY is trivial, just make sure you have a pan that's big enough (10qt).
Also Walmart, of all places, has the price for the 0w40 M1 synthetic, I pick it up whenever I'm around my parents' place in michigan for around 28 bucks a 5L jug (only because there are no walmarts downtown Chicago). Oil changes end up being running $65 in total.
