Why is it when someone new comes along and really slams the door closed, it takes out the soft close?

I guess I will have to take my old driver side door latch apart and see what the problem is. Maybe I can fix the passenger door latch.

Anything you find on this would be great. My soft close has been intermittent.

Intermittent is a problem all unto itself. I doubt that anything I do will help that.

FWIW, intermittent to me the twice I had it (first was under warranty) was just an early synonym for on its way out. Sometimes it would come to life if I parked the car a particular way (usually sun helped) or it was warmer. Slamming door was no help. But, each died fully after a while. Once I figured out how to get past the aluminum bulkhead after you pull off the door trim/card, it was a manageable repair.
