Trunk issue
I received a spring set from Louis yesterday and tried that fix, unfortunately either the motor is too weak or the hinges are out of wack. The trunk will never open with out assistance, but will close at least once or twice in a row and then attempts to but fails.
I lubed all the areas I could see prior to installing the springs, to no avail.
Not a big issue with me but it would be nice if it worked as it should. Any thing else I should try?

If it doesn't close, the magnet surface is dirty or the setting
is NOT correct. I would open it up and clean the magnet surface with alcohol. Check to see if it will activate better when the engine is on. Check the battery to see if it's over 12.1V when you open or close. It must have the initial power to lift the passenger side up or close the trunk consistently for the springs to help.
Cheers,
Louis

Louis I hope you're not taking offense, I appreciate you providing the springs.
I will try opening the trunk with the car running, but it is a new battery so that doesn't seem likely. The soft close mechanism seems to work fine when it fail to open and closes.I can see from the hing bolts that someone has tried to adjust them.
I'll re-read your website post and report back.

I fiddled with it for a while and finally decided it needs a new motor and possibly struts. I shopped around wasn't willing to pay $300 or more for a used motor. But i just checked ebay and you should snap this up before someone else does:
04 05 06 07 08 09 A8 Power Trunk Motor Assembly Used Insurance Salvage Vehicle | eBay
That is the upgraded higher torque motor and a deal that price.

Bargain!
$85 is a bargain for an upgraded motor! If your current one is not even able to close the trunk anymore then don't waste any more time nursing it along with stop gap bodges. It's past fixing.
Get that one bought asap and installed and forget about it. And quickly as anyone watching this thread who needs one will snap it up as soon as they see it. I know I would.
