The dealer here told me recently they are very close to ending the loaner car program entirely. Too many loaner cars have been wrecked by customers. He said they had at least 6 cars in the shop, and another 4 had been totaled by customers this year alone.

He said before they cut the loaners completely off, they might just keep loaners for A8 owners and S-car owners only. Personally, I would be fine with that.

I just brought my car in for it's 55,000 mile service, and after having been dissatisfied with my previous loaners, this time I asked specifically for an A8 when I made the appointment. They gave me a 2015 A8L 3.0t. After some puttering around town, I noticed some key differences from my 4.2. You can definitely feel the lack of weight up front, particularly when parking. Also, you'd think the V6 wouldn't be up to weight of the A8L, but you'd be wrong, I have no complaints. I would prefer the punch of the V8, but the V6 has no trouble getting the car up to speed without any complaining or drama, surprisingly quickly, if necessary. Unless you were an enthusiast, like myself, I don't see any other reason to get the V8. I finally got a loaner I'm happy with. That said, I still can't wait to get my car back.

My last loaner, at 5,000 miles, was a new Porsche Panamera Hybrid. Very nice drive!

Audi wants to surpass BMW and they are well on there way (helped by BMW and their ugly cars), but the kind of service one used to get when your bought a top line car is no longer available. You DON"T GET what you paid for anymore.
It's not just Audi, my wife's brand new Merc GLA almost killed her...TWICE from the gas pedal being non-responsive due to a major fuel injection ECU issue [supposedly--same problem happened after being replaced less than 10 miles later]. The dealer has been great thus far, but MBUSA is giving me the impression they aren't going to play ball with me to get another car, and not a GLA with the **** motor and transmission that is causing these issues.

With respect to BMW, I pretty much agree with you on styling, though I do like the new 5 and 7 much more than the last generation. The fact that BMW has stopped putting manual transmissions in anything is also a reason if I get another bimmer, it will be an older one.

I took my '12 in for an MMI update ( Bluetooth issues, was Vers. 4.06), they had to keep my car in overnight and were nice enough to give me a rather pleasant '15 A8L tdi with B&O, heads up display and 360 degree camera...the latter two options that I would really like now I've tried them.

Hey I think I had that exact same loaner when I took my A7 in for service. Parking in my garage was not an option - it's way too long!

My dealer in fresno never has any loaners to offer other than A4, A6, Q5 and Q7. I get nothing comparable to what I drive. They dont have any A7, or A8 due to the fact that they just plain sell them.

I'm back in the A8L TDI loaner again. Pic below from previous poster. (New interior rattle/buzz in A7 - frustrating in an otherwise spectacular car.)

Loving the air suspension in the "Battlestar Galactica" (parking it not so much fun) but, wow, those Pirelli P Zero Nero tires are NOISY. Ruins an otherwise impressive ride.
