A/C Clutch Relay. Has 4 pins and socket has 5 cables into panel (!?). Diode thing?
Hi.
I wrote some time back as I am getting a ticking noise from the relay panel under the dash.
Anyway, it seems that the A/C clutch is bypassed almost on evyrthing it should do.
1)Anyway, first thing is that there is signal whatsoever coming INTO the Relay....
So, where should the signal come from for the A/C Clutch relay? Head Unit and somewhere else?
2)Whatīs with the fact that there are 5 cables coming into that relay socket and the Relay ( looks original with 267 on it and PN 443919578C) has only 4?
3) And then (I have searched about it ) ther is this DIODES thing around that relay and the BOSE Stereo ( which I have). I have read about it and in SJM, but what does the A/C clutch relay has anything to do with the Radio? I have read about an underdash diode? -- Sorry on this, I am not very familiar on diodes, what they do and what is the relation in this case between the A/C clutch and Radio....
By the way, my completely remanufactured BOSE speakers ( from BOSE USA) are still poping ( only when turning ON OFF....but still)....Anything to do with this? RReally?
Thanks a lot

Adding a few more infos.
The car is a 200 20V
And now, I have a electric diagram but I think is for a KE-Jetronic car.
Why? Because at the Clutch relay there is a GREEN cable saying that it goes to Idle Stabilizer
I believe 20V donīt have idle stabilizer, right? Only 10V cars do, right?
So, what would that GREEN cable go to ( or come from)?
Relay number is 443 919 758 C
This is whay I was asking about the signals and that it might be the 5th (!!?) cable that does not have a pin counterpart on the relay
Thanks

The A/C clutch connection is that the ECU shuts off the A/C under circumstances like full acceleration. The diode is to stop the power from the A/C clutch blowing the ECU through that connection.

Allright
Thanks.
I do have a Bentley, only that I am not able to "read" the electric diagrams the way they are draw.
Anyways, Yoda, thanks. The 20V does have an ISV, but does it have an Idle stabilizer Unit ( like the one in 10V). So, should that Green cable go to the ISV directly?
Kneale, thanks a lot. Now I see. However, is that same connection "ECU-clutch relay" the one used to actually turn ON and OFF ( manually, from head unit) the compressor clutch or it is just for the shutting off in case of full acceleration?
How about the 5 Pin socket and 4 Pin Relay? Yoda, in the diagram I have ( where it says GREEN to Idle Stabilizer) is the one that, on the socket, does not have any Relay pin doing any contact......
I am still puzzle with that.
Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot

No the 20v ISV is not controlled by a separate unit like the 10v it is controlled by the ECU.
You should be looking at page 590 in volume 3 of the bentley it's all about the current track numbers your green wire goes to current track 35 on page 540 which is the ECU connector.

Hey Yoda.
Thanks a million. Found it.
Now that I can check the diagrams, there is one black cable coming out of the A/C thermostat that goes into the Air control box.....And here is the catch...THAT is the one 5th cable in the middle of the relay socket that the relay does not have any contact with as the relay has 4 pins.....
Relay number is 443 919 578 C.
So, do I have a relay, that even if Audi original part number, is an updated version but not suitable for this car??
What is the original Relay number?
Thanks

Post a picture of your aux. relay panel under the dash I want to see which position this relay is in? I checked both my 200 20v's and they both do not have it.

Hi Yoda.
I will on monday.
However, what I have seen on vagcat is that there is a change in the realy depending on the VIN of the vehicle.
I donīt have it with me right now, but it is an European spec first registered in July 1990.
This is what I have found depending on the VIN:
(15) 443919578C
electronic control unit for electro clutch / for vehicles with electroni- cally regulated air condit. / relay location: / F >> 44-J-300 000
6 /
(15) 443919578H
electronic control unit for electro clutch / for vehicles with electroni- cally regulated air condit. / relay location: / F 44-K-000 001>>
6 /
(15) 443919578J
electronic control unit for electro clutch / relay location: / F 44-K-000 001>>
So, by the VIN number, I see that is almost impossible that relay 443 929 578C is the one.
So itīs either 578H or 578J
Could that be?
