Default Homelink

So my brother-in-law just purchased a A3 Cabriolet - his first Audi and after he purchased it - realized that it did not have Homelink. I have not really followed the A3 forums and this was the first I had heard of it. I went online and looked at the features of the A3. Totally surprised that Audi does not include it with this model.

Has anyone found a solution to add it to the car - i.e. sunvisor or aftermarket device that blends in with the existing trim of the car?

Appreciate any help I can pass on to him.

I installed a new garage door opener that I could open/close with my smart phone. $220 self installed. Sears Craftsman. That was the advise I received on the forum.

You could buy a module from home link directly but I like smart phone solution better. Now by the time I roll into my driveway, my garage door is all the way open. Also came with a backup battery.

My openers were 13 years old and I was happy to do it.

Yeah Reggie, there's a few threads on this… we all whined a bunch about it here over the summer… shocked most everyone and I think no one really noticed till after they got home and tried to program their remotes.

I'm still considering what to do, but this is a good place to start.

Looks like we might be able to buy an aftermarket auto-dimming rear view mirror with homelink integrated into the mirror. That would knock out two issues with one purchase. I'm not sure how easy/possible the swap would be but considering the stock mirror has no electronics at all, I can't imagine it wouldn't work.

Thanks everyone. It looks like he is resigned to just using a thin remote control that came with his opener.
