Default Audi A5 indicator fault (59 plate)

Good evening,

My Audi indicator has started playing up and it has come to the point where it can be quite dangerous.

I indicate left and it turns the right side on.

Other times I indicate right and the left will come on.

And then some times it doesn't indicate at all.

The only time I seem to get a nit of normality is when I hold down the indicator and put the steering wheel on to full lock until it clicks. This seems to reset the fault for a little while.

I know that this is obviously something to do with the switch at the base of the stem but is this an easy fix or a pain in the ****?

Any help would be greatly received. Thank you.

I think it is more complicated than I would attempt. Here is my write up on replacing a steering wheel on a RS4 which is the B7 body not B8 like your car. You can see what things look like with the wheel removed
