I want to remove it but I don't want to break the front grill... Buying a new one is really expansive . I realoly like the RS5 look with the honeycomb shape but I didn't found it under 600 $...
Not sure if you figure it out yet, but I believe the entire plate holder clips on to the grill, and has screws at the bottom right/left hand corners. Feel along the bottom of the license plate holder, and you should feel the clips. If you remove the screws, and gently pull back the clips from the bottom, you should be able to pull the plate holder towards you, then lift up and remove. I can check my plate holder, and post a follow up if needed.
You will need to remove the bolts holding it to the grill. This leaves two holes in the grill. There are plugs available that cover the holes, or you can buy a new grill. I chose the latter. On my A6 ED, they will install the front plate with plastic ties.
Here is the one I got. Ask them for a scratch and dent for $149 plus shipping. This is what It'll look like. Comes with the rings and a Euro plate holder. 90 minute install to include painting of the crash bar.
