Default You track your RS5 and...

You race CTS-Vs and win (or keep up quite well).
1) Can you daily drive your RS without destroying your wife's(or husband's) desire to be in your car?
2)What did you have to tune to make it happen? APR? Stasis? suspension? RWD conversion?
3)is the front engine understeer really not an issue on the track with the sport differential torquw vectoring?

My goal is three fold 1)daily drive 2)log 2 to 3 1200mile trips/year 3) drive hard on track 5 to 6 times/per year. RS7 is the only Audi logging faster track time(at VIR) than the Caddilac.

I dont want to discuss looks. the all look good to me. I want to discuss looking over the bonnet into the corners. Love to know what has to happen to an Audi to make it reach into CTS-V '09s nurburgring time. Love to see a list of Nurburgring times for tuned Audis. And lastly, love to know how long a sport tuned Audi lasts. Thanks experts. Sorry for the flood of questions.

Soooo, just like to polish the car and cruise then? Ok, Nothing wrong with that. Was hoping to hear from folks who track the RS5.

I didn't even read this thread at first. The title sounds like a total troll post, but I'll bite. You gonna have to qualify your driving skills, but if you are anything short of a pro race driver, chances are you'll be faster around the track in the RS5 w/o the need of any performance upgrades if you at least know how to use the AWD traction to your advantage.

I back up my claim with the words of Randy Pobst who managed a faster track time in the RS5 than he recently did in the more powerful C63 AMG 507.

Given how high Randy was on the 507, we figured the less powerful, heavier RS 5 had no shot. We couldn't have been more wrong. Posting a best lap of 1:42.97, it was 0.48 second quicker, but Randy's comments suggested more like 4.8 seconds. "The R8 should be half this good! This car is fantastic. I adore it. It does such a great job utilizing all-wheel-drive traction off the corner, with zero push. You just drive in there and you think it's too early, but you just floor it and you're like, man, I should've gotten on the gas sooner. And no push, no oversteer -- it just drives right out of there, beautifully carving an exit line, using all the power. The gearbox is also very friendly. I just got more confident with carrying speed in and trusting the grip." Indeed, Pobst was able to dive deeper into the corners in the Audi and then carry more speed through the turns. That's where the Benz lost time, albeit not that much. Had it not been for the 507's underhood advantages, which gave it the drop exiting corners and on straightaway Vmax, the RS 5 would have extended the gap.

Thanks superswiss,

I did see that review. As I watched him drive, it seemed he liked driving the Audi the most but to close chose the Benz for some strange reason.

I cant claim trackable greatness, but trackable intentions, yes. I'm not sure what a troll post is. Been shopping performance sedans for a year but had a recent set back. The setback is good, judging from the latest track times of the RS5 and RS7. Previously the CTS-V was at the top of my list but I had this nagging AWD voice in my head saying, snow and rain. Just this past week while checking for recent performers, I found the RS5 and RS7....visiting one of the Audi museums in a few weeks...so I have been gathering info to know as much as I can before I go. Thanks for responding. The CTS-V has some incredible legacy and is currently the best performer I've driven. But, I have a desire for an AWD athlete both facelifted RS cars look great and aside from the consistent complaint that the car lacks driver's steering feel, I'm very interested in learning the Audi mindset. Things like:

1.Financial fun:Buy it with the goal of selling in four years cause maintenance is a hassle
2. New family member: Buy it and keep it forever...cause it will last that long.
3. Mistress: Buy it and spend lots of money on third party looks, handling and power. Cause folks love Quattro tuning
4. Jock: Buy it and take it to the track, cause sports differentials are all the rage
5. Diva:buy it and park it somewhere in bright lights so folks can take pictures of it cause it really is exotic these days

Yeah, I found some other good numbers. Impressive:

That's actually Jonny Lieberman and not Randy Pobst in the video and like many journalist gearheads they tend to favor the car that can throw out its tail at any point and produces maximum drama. Overall I like Jonny, but I'm also questioning his final choice.

The lack of steering feel is a bit overblown IMO. If you get the RS5 with the driver assist package or the RS7 with the dynamic package, then you get dynamic steering, which is a variable ratio steering rack that is more direct and livelier than the standard steering. Most journalist don't give it enough time to see the benefits and instead give it a negative review. You'll have to form your own opinion about it, but I wouldn't do w/o it. The other thing you can do to improve the steering feel is to replace the stock subframe brace with the Alu Kreuz from Eurocode Tuning.

That's what I'm looking for! Pobst is amazing, Lieberman and Lagos normally very informative but often they miss it over things pesky options and trim levels, things like dynamic steering etc. I really wish they drive multiple versions of cars to test, especially when doing head to head comparisons.

Thanks for providing that information.

Note that certain track characteristics favor certain types of cars.
Long straights, short straights, elevation changes, turn radii, track surface camber, etc... all play into each cars' pros and cons.

On certain tracks, TQ and HP are way down the list of pros, on other tracks they are high on the list of pros.

I haven't driven VIR, but I've driven Road America, BIR, BlackHawk Farms and Mid Ohio to name some recent outings. Myself and my car do turn in good laptimes on some tracks and just can't make good laptimes on other tracks.

Just sayin' try to be objective on what the car is designed for and what track it was run on.
Then, in no way compare that to street performance, confort and enjoyment factor.

A recent lapping day had me and my S5 lapping a CTS-V or being equal to a CTS-V depending on the driver, if the driver was yellow-flagging, or some other circumstance (weather, tires, etc...)
