It is a sad time for sure. That is why I ran out and purchased by new A5 as I wanted the manual. For those of us that enjoy the ultimate in driver engagement, there is no substitute. It is good to hear that Porsche just developed a new manual transmission for the 911 so it looks like it has a good life there. BMW also seems willing to stand behind the manual for its customers. When Audi gave up on the R8 manual I knew the writing was on the wall. After 3 new manual transmission Audis I'm not sure where I'll go next time I'm out new car shopping. In any event my 16 year old daughter is doing very well learning how to operate the manual on my 06 A4. She turned to me the other day and said "Dad, this is kinda fun!" . I know

Default Manual

It appears that there will be a manual A4 coming. Perhaps the A5 as well.

I'm glad you are not the only father to teach his daughter how to drive on a manual. I did likewise with both my daughters - years ago on my pride and joy: SHO (Ford), 5 speed with Yamaha engine. To this day they thanks me...and both have traveled in Europe and were the only ones (including guys) who could rent a car - since they only had manuals!!! They appreciate how a car operates - and both can throw the gears on my S5 better than I can.

Default There's. More to it than you think

It's not a question of arrogance or sell just on design. Sometimes when the structural integrity of a car is compromised due to the install of a manual transmission the manufacturer is forced to perform a series of safety and collision testing for the manual version of its car. That can cost them millions of dollars and if the manual brand does not sell as good as the auto than it's not worth for the manufacturer to spend these dollars if there is no return. Dodge Charger SRT8 dropped their manual trans for 2017 for this very reason.

infiniti wow you're in my club ! I had an 89 SHO, great car amazing what a little bit of Yamaha can do to a Taurus. My boys, 3, were too young to abuse it thank god, but they all grew up on Honda's and Subaru's with manual. To this day it's their No1 priority when getting a vehicle.Maybe they're the exception as are your daughters.
