RS5 - Engine Shavings in Oil Canister
Seems as though my 2014 RS5 with about 55,000km will be in service for the next month as Audi inspects and determines the cause of the engine issue. So far there have been engine shavings found in the oil canister during routine service. Audi believes the solution is to replace the engine outright. Has anyone else had this issue on their vehicle? If so, what are the ramifications of a new engine with regards to resale value? Should I be nervous about the status of my car? Should I request some sort of compensation for the aggravation and inconvenience this has caused?
Thanks everyone. Still love the RS5, but now I'm a bit skeptical about purchasing another Audi in the future.

If it were my car, that'd be the resolution I would be looking for (a replacement engine).
Slightly O/T, but you have done very well to do 55k kms in a 2014 car!! Do you use it as a taxi or just do a sh!tload of kays??

You will not get a 'new' engine as it were but a factory reconditioned one.. Then you have the hope that they install it with the proper tolerances etc.. I would make sure to have them give you an extended warranty on this replacement motor as their policy is to just continue on with what you have left from the factory one, in your case about 15k miles left..if you are in the USA that is..

We threw a rod on our brand new turbo Outback with over 400 miles. they lent us another car for a two week scheduled trip and put the new engine in while we were gone. the loaner was an automatic vs our MT.
my guess is audi will treat you right

I drive a lot. My office is 40km from my house, not to mention the numerous weekend cottage drives and occasional road trips and casino runs (closest casino 120km). I live in Toronto, but I've driven to NYC and Montreal on a couple of occasions. The last thing I want is an engine issue on a road trip.
I appreciate the responses from everyone.

But how would you know if it was a new engine or reconditioned? Unless Audi sent you a letter specifically stating that you would be getting a new engine, I'd be skeptical but maybe that's the cynic in me.
