Default allroad issues

Recently got a allroad 53 plate, 140 on clock, had the eml come on so put it on dianostics fault code says is egr valve, took the egr off and replaced with a new one and had code reset, old was wasn't gunked up just a bit black. Light has come back on, car drives fine maybe takes slightly longer change up when in drive when setting off? Also neighbors just been across saying hazards were flashing last night but no alarm going off or I'd off heard it. Any ideas

Sorry it is uk 2003, engine 2.5 tdi quattro 180 bhp havnt got the fault code number but listed as egr valve, seems to smoke abit on start up now. Found out there was problems with the battery compartment flooding so checked under there was no water pooled but drain was full of crud. Not sure if there should be the siren under there but didn't see one maybe its been removed and that's why I only have lights?

if the egr valve is ok,it could be a circuit code, not a performance code,in which case the fault will come straight back....rescan and get the code if you can.Egr codes can be hard to fix, leaky air intakes, faulty air mass meters, blocked air filters, faulty pcv valves can all cause egr codes, usually the pcm is using the air mass to monitor egr flow,so its looking for a specific flow at a specific duty cycle on the valve.all of the above can influence air flow, can be a real pain in the *** to fix.

Check the Exhaust gas recirculation valve Nr 11. For test you can switch between the valve and valve No. 10 No. 11.
Check the intake manifold alsow
