Replacing the front AC fan - field repair
Last weekend my wife and I went camping in Central Oregon. She went a couple of days before me and had some issues with overheating on the slow stuff. Turns out the front AC condenser fan had died so I bought a generic 12" fan and brought my tools to try to replace it at the campground.
The fan itself can be pulled out with little issue but the wiring might be tough as there isn't a whole lot of room to fit the plug through. I didn't need to worry about that since I was going to cut the wiring anyway. Here's some pics on how to do it:
Here is my work area. The picnic table makes a pretty good work bench.
This is how the original, stock fan sits so it's pretty accessible.
Aside from the two T25 screws on the top you will also need to remove this T30 screw on the bottom. To get to it you just need to pull the lower center grill and use an extension with a swivel. It's not too hard to get to.
And finally the generic 12" fan fits in there pretty nicely. I few zip ties and a little bit of wiring and it worked perfectly. The trip home was uneventful with no over heating even on the slow grades that we had to drive over.
So there you have it. In a pinch it's pretty easy to change out that front electric fan. All you need is a T25 bit, T30 bit, some electrical connectors, zip ties, and a 12" fan.
