Default Audi Music Interface (AMI) part numbers

I've searched the forums regarding the differences in AMI versions and I am still lacking answers. This post is my attempt at having all questions answered in one place.

(Keep in mind that the part number on the AMI box is 4E0 035 785 and it's labeled as a CD Changer)

So far I have seen the units themselves with part numbers:

4E0 057 785
4E0 057 785 A
4E0 057 785 B
4E0 057 785 C
4E0 057 785 F
I don't know if "D" and "E" exist.

I've read that "B" and "C" are interchangeable and that "F" is the "most recent as of 01/2012" which leads me to believe that they were released sequentially.

Maybe we will get to all of the wiring later (harnesses and adaptors).

My goal, besides creating this one stop for information here is to add an AMI unit to my 2006 A8L. I have found 4E0 057 785 and 4E0 057 785 A on Ebay but I fear purchasing an incompatible version.

Can anyone shed some light on the differences?

What model car? What year? What trim level? Where are you located? Without this info in your sig and avatar it's not possible to answer your question. Also, what device are you trying to connect to the AMI?

I don't know why you're not seeing any info in my avatar. I can see it.

I didn't create this thread just for myself but for others to be able to find answers to what seems to be a very confusing topic.

Currently I am attempting to install an AMI so that I may use a ViseeO Tune2Air WMA3000A Bluetooth Adapter to have bluetooth audio functionality. I do not want to purchase the wrong version and be stuck with it. My hope is that other members that have more knowledge on this topic will provide the information for the rest of the members so that we may have it in one location.

The reason he asked what car you have is that we can't see any of the info, here is what your post looked like to me:

In my experience, the "4E0 057 785" part number is the base part, and the letters are revisions. D is newer than C, and C is newer than A, etc. Generally, the newer revision is compatible with the older version, but not the other way around.

Now European spec parts are not necessarily compatible with USA spec parts - as standards and requirements are different. Even though both version are made in Germany right now, there can be difference in the parts. This seem most prevalent in the MMI and lighting (headlight, tail lights).

Thanks for the info. I just purchased a used "F" because I found that it is the most recent version found in 2009 A8's. I also purchased a retrofit power harness kit https://www.ecstuning.com/ES389940/ and the tune2air 3000a so that I may have bluetooth streaming.

. I'm hoping this will get me up and running!

In the screenshot that you posted it shows that I mentioned that I have a 2006 A8L Regardless, the thread is meant more as a place to help others.

Oh that part of the message. Ah yes, you did, oops! I've had good luck with buying a harness (not that one, but one for a rear camera) and installing it all. Good luck and let us know how it works.

I have a 2007 A6 Avant Q, with MMI 2g high. I purchased, 4F0051592A with 4E0035785B media unit from ebay for $160. It was from a 2006 A8 (the guy said it worked for him) and while I haven't tested it, I do believe (hope) it will work.

The cable seems to be the same one you posted at ECS. My part number for the media unit seems different, but I'm not sure of the differences... I think they are the same units, just the 4E0 057 785 F is the new part #?

I have to get my gateway, head unit and bose amp cleared of CP before I want to install it. If I install it first I fear the dealership will refuse to do anything saying I did things to the car that only they can do or something equally stupid.
