Ball Joint Removal Tool--Please Help!!
I'm trying to remove the ball joint from the outer end of the rear control arm in the front so I can replace a torn CV boot on a 2000 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8 liter. I've tried pounding on the steering knuckle to no avail. I'm wondering if anyone near Newburyport might have a removal tool. I see JTC/KTC tools makes one. The model number is 1258. I'm really stuck here. If you have a tool I could rent/borrow I'd really appreciate it. I can use my wife's car to pick it up. Thanks.

Have you tried removing the bolt for the control arm at the mounting point to the subframe? Then you do not have to mess with the ball joint at all. I usually disconnect the control arm and the tie rod end as well. That should give you plenty of room to remove the axle with ease.

Yeah, I did try that. As I recall that bolt and nut are 16 mm and I don't have either a 16 mm socket or wrench. I used some adjustable wrenches but that nut did not want to come off. I ended up bringing the car to an indie shop. They used an air chisel to loosen the ball joint.
