one of ours expired the last weekend of July but was still working until yesterday. so, it shut off almost 3 weeks after official ending. i'm still undecided on renewing on the other car.

Mine did not expire immediately - and it's only over the past three weeks that I've noticed for sure that it was shut off. I was able to google search and send to car for at least three months after the expiration date.
I haven't renewed yet, for the same reasons others have stated. But I'll eventually buckle as I do use the voice search feature and my wife likes to be able to use the wifi to get online with her laptop (and yes, I know she can use her iPhone as a personal hotspot).

T Mobile Wi Fi
Mine expired and I tried to renew it on the 15th of the month. T Mobile would not pro-rate the renewal so I would pay for a month but only get 2 weeks. Not a great deal so I did not renew and now just use the cell phone as a hotspot. Much faster and I pay for a month and get a month.

Initially I was drawn to a few of the features of the mmi nav w/ audi connect but realize now that my unlimited iPhone 5 data a/ hotspot feature is significantly better... I'm assuming the only features that might disappear next February if I don't renew is:
Google earth maps
Google search features w/weather, search for food, cafés, and other normal search features...?
I'm assuming the nav/GPS features including send to car maps will still work and the GPS without google maps will fully function.
I love the mmi connect iPhone app as the send to car feature works well.
