Memory seat settings gone?

Memory seat settings gone?
As of yesterday, the two memory seat/mirror setting buttons on driver's door no longer respond. The seat can still be adjusted manually. Did I lose my settings or did I inadvertently press something that disabled them? The "Off" button next to them is not lit up, so they should be operational.

Well, it appears the settings have vanished without a trace. I had to program them in again from the beginning.
I'd still like to know what caused the loss so that I can avoid it in the future.
