2009 TDI Tempsensor All over the place
I have a 2009 Audi Q7 TDI with 76k on it, the water pump recently failed at 74k and was replaced. On a trip back from Austin to Fort Worth about 200 miles my temperature gauge just shot up fast! I pulled over and checked under the hood and there was no noticeable heat/smell/ etc. From having my water pump fail I am terrified to have the engine damaged. I turned the car back on and the temperature went back down. The next day as soon as I started the engine the sensor shot back up, I got a OBD reading and it came back as the EGR valve. Not wanting to mess with it I contacted a local guy that is TDI guru. He goes by the name @TDI GUY, he told me to drop off my car. After 1 hour of diagnosing and driving it he figured out that I had a short in my temperature sensor. The part was 75.00 however the problem was that when it was being removed half of the sensor broke off in the pipe/watertube. He said I had 3 choices: One have then try to loosen the pipe and work the part out 2: Remove the pipe which runs from one part of the engine to the other (expensive hourly fee's) 3: tap in a new port around the sensor and install the new sensor. I went with option 3 and he epoxied the original sensor and installed the new one. 300 bucks later she is working very very well.
