All 4, or just 2???
My two front tires are shot, but the rears still have plenty of life left in them. Do I need to replace all 4 to avoid damaging Quattro system, or can I get away with getting new fronts for now?

if they are within 5% of the front you're fine... however i am very ocd and particular about vehicle maintenance... i would do all four and sell the other two or hold them as spares.
in order to avoid this in the future you should complete a tire rotation every oil change. (providing you do a 7500 mi interval).
what psi do you keep the tires set for? i have the 21" oem s-line wheels and i do 49psi all around. i have not had wear issues with that psi and frequent rotation. i have owned four q7 and done the same for all. no issues.
