Default Low fuel warning very conservative?

After running a few tanks low (around 50 miles remaining) and then refueling, I noticed that it was taking less then 19 gallons to fill back up.
This last tank, I ran it down to 10 miles left on range. Refueled and it took 19.4 gallons. So another 3.1 gallons left in the tank. I'm estimating only about 2 of this gallons are usable. Still that would be roughly another 45 miles till completely empty based on my MPG.
That's really conservative and getting a low fuel warning that early on is very different than every other car I have owned.
Anyone else experience the same thing?

Looks about right. I think it hits 0 ("refuel immediately" message) at approx 20 Gal.

I've put pretty close to 22 gallons in before. They come in so empty to dealerships that they sometimes run out before we can get to a gas station.

Bet the lot porters grumble a lot of profanities when that happens.
