Is there a way to display the gear number on the large display in the middle of the instrument cluster - I have the digital speed on there now - I would prefer the gear number in large...

There's no way to do that via VAG-COM coding. The best you can do is have the gear indicated along side the "D" or "S" at the bottom of the display.
[02 - Auto Trans] [Adaptation - 10]
Select "Single Gear Display" from top channel drop down menu
Select "D on/S on" from New value drop down menu

I suspect the majority of the Audi clients are not car enthusiasts and it potentially could generate more questions than the number of people it would placate:
"I think there's something wrong with my car. I was driving down highway 69 today and it said D6 on the dash and it's supposed to say D7."

Tried to enable this on a B8.5 (2013 S4) and can't get it to work --- anyone successfully do this on the newer model and is there a different process? I've found a few little differences so far in other VAGCOM changes.

RS5 large gear display
Too bad that there is no way to get a large gear selection on the display other than the tiny one. That would give the panel and those of us that like shifting gears a race car feel.
