Fair price for a 2001
A family member has a 2001 S4 with approximately 45000 miles on it. Absolute mint condition, never modified, chipped, etc. Always garaged in the winter. No major work done to it that I know of (including no timing belt).
The dealer here says that the timing belt replacement will cost $15000. Is that even remotely accurate?? I've seen ads in this forum for less than $1000 for the same service, so that really confuses me.
What is a fair price for this car, and am I crazy for considering it given the looming timing belt issue?
Advice is appreciated!
Thanks!

So what would be a reasonable price for this car, assuming it will need a timing belt (for approximately $1500) in 25000 miles or so?
Any other maintenance issues I should be considering?

TB Replacement
Keep in mind, this vehicle is approaching 11 years old. I would do timing belt ASAP.This is an interference engine and if you loose the belt it can cause serious damage. Remember the belt is rubber and it could be degraded, not from wear but from age. Check KBB and NADA in your area for pricing. It is better than guessing the vehicle value. Good luck sounds like a sweet ride. Another tip, oil change with synthetic oil. Always use quality synthetic to withstand the high temps in the turbos.
