Default Fuel leak, pass side rear fender??? Need help

Hey guys... need a little help. Came out of the mall today and found a small puddle of fuel by the rear passenger wheel well. Right beside the jack stand lift point. Put my hand up there and definitely fuel, and some rust coming from what seemed to be some sort of 90 degree joint.. not just a cut line... some sort of connection point

What could this be. (fuel filter, pump, line, what????? )

No work done lately, but the car has been hard to start some mornings (thought it was a weak battery) may still be and unrelated to the fuel problem

Thanks guys

Sounds like you probably have a hole in your fuel tank.

Could be any/all of the abnove. If you get your car up on jackstands, lift, ramps, or whatever and check it out, you will see that the bulk of the fuel system is around there. You're going to have to get in there, clean everything up and then track down precisley where the leak is coming from by waving a match around. KIDDING!, no but if it is leaking fast enough for a puddle to form, you should be able to watch the dropletts form at whatever the leak site is.

correction: the location you are talking about (around the jack stand point) is probably NOT going to be a hole in the tank. The fuel delivery lines do run past this area. I assume they will be bundled with the brake fluid lines but I'm not sure. These are all metallic lines and they generally connect with metallic nozzles held together with a nut.

It's likely that you have a bad connection somewhere, maybe just a loose nut. As Indx said, you will have to look up there with a flashlight and determine where the leak originates. If you're loosing fuel while parked then it is a good bet that you are losing even more when the car is running because there will be pressure in the fuel feed and return lines.

I would put the car up and turn the key to ready position to activate the fuel pump and pressurize the fuel system. This should make it easier to determine where the leak is coming from. Of course, be very very careful when messing with a leaky fuel system - make sure you keep the work place ventilated and be super cautious with any electronics or tools you use.
