Default Re: However the ball still wears out and is still wrapped in rubber. To each their own I guess......

You can buy another SS and buy new shifter ***** as they wear out especially if you road race. In the long run there is more cost.

Once again though, some people prefer a little comfort, then this shifter isn't for you.

Default Try to scoot the plastic base up some, you probably have it too far back...........

Just loosen the bolt and slide the whole thing up. Probably only need to scoot it forward 1/8"

I was one of the first to get the B5 A4 shifter and as far as i'm concerned it is the best shifter ever developed for these cars. It has a pure performance feel with little play. You can feel the precision and accuracy of the shifts. I know when i'm in gear and haven't missed one since I've installed the shifter.

Default So how many other shifters have you tried?

I have tried about every single one available for our cars.

Aside from that every person has different tastes and the JHM just seems a bit more rigid than I need in a daily driver. I think the main purpose of the shifter is to increase durability and with this I think it sacrifices a few things. This sacrifice may be perfectly acceptable for some.

My main thing is that I didn't notice a huge improvement in shifters from the JHM and TG SS with zip tie mod. However, I did notice an increase in noise and notchiness.

I am however giving it some time and trying to align the shifter a bit more and replacing the missing screw in the cradle so that I'm sure to give it a fair shake.

I think its important to give my opinions not to bash the product but let everyone know my experience as some may have the same expectations and requirements as me.

Default Re: Have you ever replaced the rubber plastic socket down at the tranny for the linkage?............

If you still think you have too much play that might help out as well.

ECS tuning sells them.
