Solution for Fidanza S4 clutch rattling?
Hello all, 2000.5 B5 S4 2.7T unmodified.
I recently had a Fidanza put on my car. Big mistake. Rattles REALLY badly when idling and the clutch isn't depressed.
I'm a little confused, as I would expect the same rattling regardless of clutch position (pedal engaged or not) if the engine RPM is the same. But at idle, it's VERY annoying, have to hold the clutch in all the time or it sounds like freaking rod knock. Yes, it's THAT loud.
Throwout bearing possibly bad (it's new)? I have a little rattling at low RPM when driving, but that's not a huge deal to me, it's the idling clutch disengaged that's most annoying.
And yes, I did a search, but no one really focused on noise in the difference in clutch positions and whether it's really the flywheel or something else and if there's a solution. Now would be the time, just tore my engine back apart, jumped timing on me less than 2k after the clutch job. I found a K04 Stage 3 engine (without clutch) I'm putting in, and I'm not sure if this will make the rattle better or worse and if there's a fix while I have it apart.
Thanks!

Rattle in neutral with the clutch out....goes away when clutch is pushed in...RPM dependent...ideas?
