Default 2016 S6 - The Radio Comes On Automatically When You Start The Car

Does this annoy anyone else?

Is there any way to change it so you can turn the radio on manually at your own discretion?

This is one of my pet peeves. I have a 2014 S6 and there isn't even a way to turn off the audio system without shutting down the whole MMI. You can mute the volume, but that isn't quite the same thing - and it comes back on when you restart the car.

What I have done as a workaround is this...
Place a blank MP3 file on an SD card that is otherwise empty. I downloaded the 5 minute long sample from here. Then select that SD card as the source - it will play the blank MP3 file in a loop effectively turning off the audio system. It will keep that selection across vehicle restarts.

Not perfect, and wastes an SD card slot, but it works.

I have a similar issue. I listen to several comedy podcasts while driving that feature what some might consider to be salty language. When I take my car to the car wash or know my kids will be riding in the car, I switch the MMI from media to radio and turn the volume down all the way. It's a serious annoyance - when the radio is off/muted when you shut off the car, it should be in the same state when you start it again. My first car, a 1987 Pontiac, did it the way it should!

This is super annoying. Thankfully, it can be changed by using the hidden menu in the MMI and adjusting the minimum volume. At least on the 2014 (imagine it's similar on 2016).

Second!

Single worst 'feature' of the car. You would think that such a simple thing wouldn't be such a big deal, but it really really annoys me every time I start the car.

Based on snowbooch's comment regarding adjusting the minimum volume, I used my vag-com cable and enabled the hidden menu and found the menu item in question and set it to 0.

Works perfectly. The audio no longer comes on automatically every time I start the car. Too bad it took years to finally fix this.

If anyone needs help with this I can post the instructions. It wasn't difficult.

In the same hidden menu, you can also set the max to 0, which makes sure the volume is always 0 at startup, even if you were listening to something previously. That's my preference.

On my car, all you have to do is press the MMI control panel volume button and hold it down for few seconds to completely turn off the radio. Screen will fold down and stay turned off at restart. Pressing it once only mutes radio and it comes back on at restart.
however when you hit reverse it will come back up for camera then go away again.

Not sure if that's what you're looking for.

No, I/we still want all the features of the MMI, just without the audio constantly turning on when we start the car. First world problem I realize, but I've owned many Audis and it always bothers me. The hidden menu adjustment solves the problem for good.

Now I need to see if I can make the same adjustment on my R8. It's not a daily driver though so it doesn't bother me as much when the audio always comes on when I start the car.
