Default does the manual tt show gear position on dash

Is there a position indicator on the dash for the manual trans like the auto has? It will help my son as he has never driven a stick, not to mention a 6 sp. I hope there is a selection option and its turned off now

I am not aware of such a feature on a TT MK1 6 speed manual. Mine does not have it.

Thats too bad, it seems more important on a manual then on an automatic.
Thank you for your reply

If you knew how to drive a manual transmission, you'd realize why an indicator on the dash is completely unnecessary

I know weird huh? Automatics show the gear position because there so much harder to operate!

automatics show the gear position because otherwise there's no way to tell what gear you're in...

I personally have never owned a stick shift car that displays what gear you're in.

Teach him how it works and he will have it figured out in a few minutes. I have never seen any sort of indicator in a VW or Audi and I have owned eight with sticks. My son was driving my Beetle with a stick when he was 14.

Edit: Some VW's and Audi's inthe early to late '80's had an "upshift" indicator to inform the driver to shift to a higher gear to save fuel. I never had one and hated it on the cars Itest drove.

The only hard part about a manual transmission is getting the foot timing right (brake/gas and clutch), and most people pick that up pretty quickly. Selecting the gears themselves is about as basic as it gets, really. You can tell by feel (and by looking down at the shifter, if you need to) what gear you're in.
