CAN-Bus and my 2001 A4

CAN-Bus and my 2001 A4
Can someone please confirm if my car has CAN-bus? Searching around, it looks like I'd have to say 2 things:
1. A digital clock in a 2001 A4 means you have a CAN-bus
2. Only cars 2004+ are CAN-bus
Obviously, these 2 points conflict. So which is it? Or how can I tell?
I'm looking into buying a VAG-COM, but want to know if I need to purchase a newer model, older model, or what.

May work, but it doesn't come with a VAG-COM license and even though you'll never...
...get updates or the cool features of newer/current versions of the software.
You may want to read some of the FAQ points.<ul><li><a href="http://ross-tech.com/vag-com/vag-com-faq.html">http://ross-tech.com/vag-com/vag-com-faq.html</a</li></ul>

Thanks
I'm trying to clear my airbag codes, or at least read them, to see if I fixed the problem.
I understand that there is a big issue with the seat connectors on the B5 A4s. I did some disconnect/reconnect, but I don't think the code will clear on it's own.
I changed my post to reflect a bigger question I have: Is my car CAN-BUS or not? I can't really find a definitive answer for that. Some say if I have a digital clock (which I do), my car is CAN-BUS. Others have said 2004+ only are CAN-BUS.

Your car definitly has more than one can-busses...
...point here, you need to understand that there are more than one of them.
- CAN-Powertrain (connects powertrain control modules)
- CAN-Comfort (connects comfort related control modules)
- CAN-Infotainment (connects infotainment related control modules)
- CAN-Diagnostics (only relevant for the scan tool)
You definitly have the first 2, the 3rd one is a bit tricky but I don't think you have that one. The 4th one is the only one you definitly do not have.

Great, so a standard ODB2 for diagnostics?
I understand that the HEX+COM-CAN will work with both ODB2 and CANbus diagnostics, is this correct? Maybe I should just spring for an extra bit of cash up front, to make sure any future Audi's I get will be compatible? Or is that a silly idea?
