Audi RS3 Takes On The BMW M2 On Track

The mighty Audi RS3 is a blisteringly fast little monster. Does it have what it takes to out preform the BMW M2 on the race track?

The Audi RS3 is the baby of the RS lineup from Audi. The RS3 has 400 hp and 354 ft lbs of torque from its turbo inline five cylinder engine. It has seven speed dual-clutch and all wheel drive.  The RS3 rivals BMW M2 both in terms of performance and pricing. In this video, Cars.co.za set up two laps of a race track. One is a standing start lap time and the other is a flying lap time. So, getting off the line swiftly is crucial to both times.

Audi RS3 VS BMW M2

The rowdy Audi RS3 seemed to hunker down and grab the road on its launch. The Quattro all wheel drive helps it blast off the line. The turbo inline five cylinder packs a punch, while the hatchback design is totally practical. The RS3 is all-weather capable and has has four doors to haul the family. The RS3 can do 0-60 is 3.5 seconds, which is incredibly quick. Will this be enough to beat the BMW M2?

In the opposing corner we have the BMW M2, with a 3.0 liter twin turbo inline 6 cylinder. The BMW M2 has 365 hp and 343 ft lb of torque. Its a tight drift happy coupe will do 0-60 in 4.0 seconds. So, the numbers say the Audi should win. They came with in 2/10’s of each other time for the standing start. The BMW M2 was faster. There are few matters to look at. In an earlier video they share the M2 is a private owner car. Therefore it could be flashed or could have some other minor advantage. So many factors can play into 2/10ths of a difference.
