1.8T (Jetta IV) Throttle codes... again... any other possible causes
01 Jetta 1.8T (AWW) 120k
Have had
16804 Catalyst efficiency below threshold
code for almost a year now, waiting to find a cheap Cat. ~6 months ago I started getting
18010 Power Supply Term 30 Voltage too low
-(Interstate) Battery is less than 1yr old
-April installed TT DV and replaced some little pump/valve thing under the intake runners.
-Early Sep replaced timing belt,H20 pump, tens.
-All turbo plumbing I can find is tight
Mid Oct engine started surging, coughing, went into limp-mode (EPC) and would hardly run. Had lots of throttle-related codes including 'Throttle mechanical failure'. Replaced the throttle with a used unit from a reputable salvage yard that deals in lots of VWs (tag said it was off an 03 but didn't list mileage). After replacement ran fine, only Cat inefficiency was left and +25miles per tank.
3 weeks/1k miles later surging is back with EPC and the following codes:
16804 - Catalyst System; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold
17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)
17545 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Rich (Intermittent)
17535 - Fuel Trim; Bank 1 (Mult): System too Rich (Int)
17953 - Throttle Valve Controller: Malfunction (Int)
17579 - Angle Sensor 2 for Throttle Actuator (G188) Implausible Signal (Int)
17953 - Throttle Valve Controller: Malfunction (Int)
17976 - Throttle Actuator (J338): Mechanical Failure (Int)
17972 - Throttle Actuator (J338): Under-Voltage during Basic Setting (Int)
Before I buy a $500. brand new throttle from the dealer, my question is, I know this is a common problem but is it coincidence that I got a used throttle that was 1k away from dying? Or is there something else that would cause these codes/cause the throttle to fail?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I wish I had some suggestions for you. I have on '01 Jetta now and I've had a host of trouble for quite some time. I like the car and it still runs great, but the Check Engine light is on (again) and I'm having lots of trouble getting the issue sussed (again). This car has been into the dealer for extended periods. The techs have even had to call the Audi/VW engineers in Germany to try and figure out the error codes which indicated that there were leaks in the vacuum system. The engineers told them that there was a mistake in the system which gave incorrect error codes and they should check and clean the throttle instead. They finally fixed it and the light was off for a while, but it's back. Again, I still like the car, but I've had a long series of frustrations with this engine.
